Omigod Omigod Omigod I’m Going to Ireland

WEEK 22

BOOKS REMAINING:  23

CURRENT BOOK:  Little House on the Prairie by Laura Ingalls Wilder

Spoiler alert:  This post has nothing to do with Little House.  That’s going to be a topic for another blog after I finish the book.  Which is probably going to happen today.  Which is shaping up to be quite a jolly Friday, if I do say so myself (with all due consideration to my grandmother and uncle who are being impacted by Hurricane Matthew).  Even if it still feels like 90 degrees outside and is expected to be the same for another week, when I am beyond ready to do Fall.  At least it is a sunny day and the humidity is less oppressive.

So what else is happening today besides that I will finish Little House, you might ask?

I am finally booking the long-awaited trip to Ireland for my milestone birthday.

Based on a tip from a co-worker which I verified through online reviews, I selected a tour company that puts together your package with your flight from one of several major U.S. airports, your rental car for the week, and lodging at several different sites throughout Ireland, but does not lock you into an itinerary with a group.  Not that I’m biased (ahem…) but it was an option to leave from Chicago so I could spend a couple of days there as the icing on the cake of a trip of a lifetime.

The one catch was, apparently the tour company is a last minute deal.  I’ve been waiting.  And waiting.  And waiting.  Stalking the web site daily for them to open availability for the date we were planning.  So this morning, I followed my usual routine, got onto my computer after I arrived at the office, checked my e-mails, checked the news, checked the weather, and checked the tour company’s web site.

Guess what.

They finally opened availability for the month of my birthday.

And they had availability to leave on just the day I was planning.

I immediately called my husband just as I said I would, feeling as Anne of Green Gables might say that I had been given the moon and didn’t quite know what to do with it.  He reminded me that we had money set aside and we knew what we wanted so he was ready to book the tour tonight.  So as of this evening, I’m going to officially be going.
