This is where the Mad Part Comes In

WEEK ONE

BOOKS REMAINING:  49

CURRENT BOOK:  None

I breezed through the remainder of Are You There God?  It’s Me, Margaret while on the treadmill at the gym on Thursday after work.  I started thinking this project is going to be easy-peasy!  I’m going to finish way before my birthday!  Right?

So, after getting home, fixing beef quesadillas with a side of corn for dinner, posting my first entry in this blog, and giving myself a much-overdue pedicure, I turned my e-reader back on to return Are You There God?  It’s Me, Margaret and check out the second book on the list, A Visit from the Goon Squad by Jennifer Egan.  It was available through the 3M Cloud Library!  Everything was still swell!  But…it was checked out so I had to put a hold on it.

Was I REALLY going to be forced already to skip from the second book on the list to the third?

I had no choice but to move on and search for Ain’t I a Woman by Bell Hooks.  No luck on the 3M Cloud Library.  So I pulled up the catalog for the regular library and there was a copy available.  My library closes at 9:00 p.m. on Thursdays.  I checked the clock on the cable box in the TV console.  It was only 8:30 p.m.  The library is ten minutes away from the house, giving me time to spare.  I noted the Dewey Decimal number for the book.  My husband was perfectly happy to pause “Project Runway All Stars” and watch the NFL draft while I ran to the library.  (Don’t misjudge us; I’m also a football fan and he also likes “Runway”).  At the library, I made my way to the unfamiliar nonfiction section and located the appropriate shelf and then the book.  With no offense intended, and given that I’m not much of a nonfiction reader, I sensed great potential for the book to be a snooze fest, and I was glad to see it was short.  I was on my way home in a flash (hooray for self-check!)

The moral of the story:  Nothing gets in the way of a redhead on a mission.
